Top Five Friday; Favorite Authors

Coming to you every Friday from here on out – a variety of “top five” topics! Enjoy!

1. Alice Hoffman

My ultimate favorite author. I love her magical, lyrical prose. Every story she tells is so unique and special. I don’t think I’ve encountered any other other who captures true human emotion and evolution the way she does.

Favorite: The River King; The Dovekeepers

2. Neil Gaiman

I’ve met very few people who don’t like Neil Gaiman’s works. He has this remarkable way of weaving ridiculous-magical-fantasy worlds with reality. His characters are so vivid and relatable, even in the strangest of circumstances.

Favorite: The Graveyard Book; Neverwhere

3. Maria V. Snyder

One of my absolute favorite fantasy writers. She manages to always keep me on my toes when I am reading. Her characters have limits to their abilities and blindspots in situations that make them feel so real.

Favorite: Poison Study, Storm Glass

4. Anthony Marra

It’s hard to claim someone is your favorite author when you’ve only read one book by them, but Anthony Marra worked his magic in A Constellation of Vital Phenomena. A beautiful story and an absolutely beautiful writer. I’m patiently awaiting his next work.

Favorite: A Constellation of Vital Phenomena

5. Roald Dahl

Growing up, my mother would spend every night reading to us. I associate so much of my continued love of reading with my mother and Roald Dahl.

Favorite: Matilda; The Witches
